URGENT NEED

Hurricane Katrina, other natural disasters and the economic state have left much death, destruction and anxiety in their wake. Hope does not have to be one of the victims. Join together as we meet this challenge to be HIS salt and light in our hurting world...

As GOD's witnesses, HIS instruments in our culture, we have an awesome privilege and responsibility to touch others during situations such as this. Let me suggest at least four things each of us can (and should) do:

(1) PRAY! Please pray earnestly for these suffering people. We have a unique opportunity to show them that the love of JESUS CHRIST is not just some nice-sounding idea - it is real! Pray for the safety of the volunteers, the military, and the public safety personnel who are involved in lengthy search and rescue operations. Pray for those who are opening their homes to the displaced. Pray for the Faith Groups who are reaching out to feed body, mind, and spirit!

(2) GIVE! There are many agencies that will be bringing relief to this devastated region. May I suggest that you consider giving to the Alabama State Board of Missions Disaster Relief, the Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief, the American Red Cross, and the Salvation Army. There are also several other notable faith-based groups involved in disaster relief.

(3) DO! Volunteer as GOD has gifted you to serve the needs of your community and these hurting people. Perhaps you can serve a hot meal or you have some special talent or ability that can be utilized in the devastated region. I encourage you to register with the Governor's Office, the Alabama State Board of Missions or your local Emergency Management Agency.

(4) PREPARE! Please prepare NOW for a disaster in your area. It is not a matter of "if" disaster strikes, but rather "when". Make sure you have made preparations spiritually and physically for you and your family. Consult the FEMA or American Red Cross for specific ways to prepare NOW!

GOD bless you as you seek to be used by HIM to touch others.

Agape,
Pastor Larry
